GREAT AYTON TWINNING ASSOCIATION
Are you interested in making new French friends?
Do you want to help improve your and your family’s French?
Would you like to know more about how French families live?
Would you like to have an inexpensive fun holiday at the same time?
Great Ayton has been twinned with the town of Ouzouer in the Loire Valley for 20 years. Once every two years a visit to France is organised, with return visits by the French in the intervening years. The number involved can vary from 30 to 50 people. The next visit (to Ouzouer) will take place from Thursday 24th August – Monday 28st August 2017. Although the twinning is based on Great Ayton we also have members in Stokesley and other towns and villages in North Yorkshire and the Tees valley.
Some families choose to make their own travel arrangements if they wish to spend longer in France. But we do also provide coach transport to Ouzouer with pick-ups in local villages. In Ouzouer you will stay in the home of a French family for four nights. It is an excellent way to immerse yourselves in the language and culture of France. During the three days in France, coach visits are arranged to various places of interest, and there is an evening of food and entertainment for all the English and French families in the village hall in Ouzouer. All costs are covered by our French hosts, except for travel to and from Ouzouer. Should you choose to travel by coach we anticipate the return fare to cost £160 for adults and £80 for children.
Children must be accompanied by at least one adult but the whole family is welcome. Ability to speak French is not required. The great majority of the French hosts speak some English and many speak very good English. However, part of the fun (though not mandatory) can be attempting to communicate in French.
There is no obligation to host French visitors in return. But if you have enjoyed the experience, made friends and have suitable accommodation we would hope you might want to be involved.
Membership of Great Ayton Twinning Association normally costs £20 for two parent and £10 for one parent families per year. However, the membership fee is normally waived for the first visit.
For further information about going this year or involvement in future exchanges please email the Chairman, Dr John Nicholas firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 01642 640788.
